Ramon Leeuwin continues his career at Almere City FC. The club from the Kitchen Champion Division reports on Thursday morning that the transfer-free center defender from AZ has signed a one-year contract. With this, Leeuwin returns to Almere after fifteen years. The 33-year-old mandekker played in his younger years for FC Omniworld, the predecessor of Almere City.

“Almere is my city and I have been toying with the idea of ​​returning here for some time,” Leeuwin explains on Thursday in a response to the website of his new employer. “Almere City FC is making great progress and is in good shape. I think it would be great to make the city proud with a promotion to the Eredivisie.” The club was eliminated for promotion in the quarterfinals of the play-offs last season by NEC, which will be active in the Eredivisie in the coming year.

Technical manager Teun Jacobs is especially happy with the experience that Leeuwin adds to the selection of Almere City. “Ramon is a fantastic defender who has proven himself at all levels. Leeuwin has so far played 227 games in the Eredivisie.
