Maarten van Rossem expects the viewing figures of VI Today going to collapse. The 78-year-old historian was criticized by René van der Gijp and Johan Derksen for his striking performance at On 1 and hits back in his own podcast. “I think those good viewing figures will not last very long,” said Van Rossem. “Their ratings weren’t great before they started this show.”

Van Rossem caused a sensation last week by talking right through an answer from another guest, David van Weel (assistant secretary general of NATO), in Op1. Van Rossem thought that the senior NATO official had spoken enough, he later stated in his podcast. “Then Sven Kockelmann once again gave the floor to the NATO man, because he found the NATO man quite impressive. Then I thought: yes, hey, I never get to speak that way, so I just keep on talking. talk show tactics.”

The remarkable fragment was shown in VI Today, after which Van der Gijp concluded that Van Rossem profiles itself very much in talk shows. “He thinks that if he’s invited to a 50-minute program, he has to talk for 50 minutes.” Wilfred Genee responded and sneered at Derksen: “Men are more bothered by that at age!” Derksen himself gave a simple solution: “Don’t invite anymore!”

Van Rossem then reacts hatefully to that. “You must have very little to do if you want the fact that there is On 1 has been talked over each other for thirty seconds as the subject sits down to discuss. Boy, what a poverty,” says Van Rossem, who thinks it will soon be over with VI Today† “You’ll see it go down. My impression is that first of all there are way too many talk shows…I believe there are 42 talk shows.”
