Luuk de Jong had to stop the training of the Dutch national team in Zeist on Tuesday afternoon. The Seville attacker, who was not assured of a base place with the the Dutch squad, collided with Cody Gakpo with his knee and was left behind on the training field with a face contorted in pain. It is currently not clear how serious De Jong’s knee injury and how long the striker may have to rehabilitate.

National coach Frank de Boer started the preparation for the game in the eighth final of the European Championship on Sunday in Budapest the day after the 0-3 victory over North Macedonia. All 25 internationals in the European Championship selection of the Dutch also appeared on the training field in the Zeister woods. It was a quiet training session, but nevertheless there were problems for De Jong, who remained on the bench for ninety minutes on Monday evening in the Johan Cruijff ArenA. In the previous duels with Ukraine (3-2) and Austria (2-0), the striker was used as a substitute by de Boer.

With the help of Gakpo and physiotherapist Ricardo de Sanders, the visibly shaken De Jong was removed from the the Dutch training field and he will be further examined this Tuesday by the medical staff of the Dutch national team. The the Dutch players have a day off on Wednesday, after which training sessions are scheduled again on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, the selection of De Boer will fly to Budapest, where on Sunday at 6 pm the game will be kicked off in the eighth final against the number 3 from group D, E or F.
