A special milestone for Luka Modric. The Croatian midfielder played for Real Madrid against Cádiz CF on Saturday, making him the oldest player los Blancos in LaLiga ever.

Modric wrote history in midweek by becoming Real Madrid's oldest player in a European context. The Croat took over the record from club icon Ferenc Puskás, who played his last European match for the Royal completed when he was 38 years and 229 days old.

Modric was allowed to come on fifteen minutes before the end in the semi-final of the Champions League, automatically breaking Puskás' record in Europe. Modric was 38 years and 234 days old on Tuesday.

Four days later, Modric was logically 38 years and 238 days old, making him Real's record holder in LaLiga. He took over the record from Puskás, who played his last league match for Real when he was 38 years and 233 days old.

There is a good chance that Modric will further improve Real Madrid's record in LaLiga and in Europe. The Madrilenians, who became national champions for the 36th time on Saturday, will play their last league match of the season on May 26, against Real Betis.

In a European context, Modric's expansion options are slightly more uncertain. After the 2-2 draw against Bayern in the first leg, anything is still possible in the return, which will be played on Wednesday. If Real reach the final, they will play at Wembley on June 1.

It is still unknown whether Modric will also be active in the Santiago Bernabéu next season. The stylist has an expiring contract and after months of uncertainty there is still no clarity about a possible extended stay.

Oldest Real Madrid player ever?

To become the oldest player in Real Madrid club history, Modric will have to stay. Puskás still has that record to his name. The born Hungarian, who won the European Cup I three times with his club, played a Copa del Rey match for Real Madrid when he was 39 years and 36 days old.
