Luis Suárez arrived in Italy on Thursday afternoon, as is clear from images of, among others La Gazzetta dello Sport. The attacker from Barcelona picked up a private jet earlier on Thursday at El Prat airport and has now landed in Perugia, where he was awaited by photographers and fans. Suárez will soon take the language test necessary to obtain an Italian passport.

Suárez would take this test initially in order to make a transfer to Juventus. Italian clubs are only allowed to attract two players from outside the European Union per transfer period, and la Vecchia Signora by the arrival of Arthur and Weston McKennie is already at this limit. Suárez is eligible for Italian citizenship because of his wife’s descent and could become a player of the Turin superpower with an Italian passport.

Earlier this week, however, it could be read that the bureaucracy will probably not be settled before the end of the transfer period, and the deadline for registration for the group stage of the Champions League, on 5 October. Thursday afternoon, the Italian press once again assured that Edin Dzeko is the first choice of Juventus, which makes it very doubtful whether Suárez will be able to enter the Allianz Stadium.

However, obtaining an Italian passport could also be seen by Suárez as an investment for the future, since a passport from an EU country would make it easier for him to make a transfer to another top European competition. Suárez reportedly currently has a number of options, including Atlético Madrid.
