Ajax would do itself a good service by appointing Louis van Gaal as the new head coach after this season, Andries Jonker believes. The current national coach of the the Dutch Lionesses is convinced that Van Gaal can turn the tide in the Johan Cruijff ArenA as a coach.

Jonker was assistant to the current advisor to the Supervisory Board of Ajax for many years. Guest at NOS Along the Line the national coach discusses the coaching position in Amsterdam and puts Van Gaal forward.

“I think the club is on fire,” Jonker begins in the radio program. “The quickest solution is actually for Louis to become Ajax's coach again. The engine of the club is the first team and if there is peace and quiet immediately…”

“I think the supporters and sponsors will then get behind it. No one walks away, everyone joins in.” Hugo Borst, presenter of the show, wonders whether Van Gaal's health allows the former top trainer to start a new job as a coach.

“There is only one person who can judge that and that is Louis himself,” Jonker responds. “He can gather a staff around him with whomever he wants, with people who will take the work off his hands. But if he were to do it, everyone would immediately turn their heads and look forward.”

“Then this season will be brought to a huffing and puffing end and full of expectation the red and white heart will start beating again at Ajax,” said Jonker, who sees little point in appointing a non-Dutch coach.

“Any foreign trainer who skips even one youth player will immediately be accused of not knowing the Ajax culture. Any trainer who uses a different style of play than the usual one runs the risk of criticism, unless he wins every week,” concludes. the practice master.
