Donny van de Beek did not survive the pre-selection of the Dutch national team. National coach Louis van Gaal announced during a press conference on Friday that he had a 45-minute telephone conversation with Van de Beek on Thursday evening, to inform him, among other things, about his decision not to include him in the the Dutch selection. Valentijn Driessen does have a suspicion about what else the national coach has discussed with the the Dutch international.

Van Gaal said that he informed Van de Beek on Thursday evening about the fact that he does not have to report to Zeist in the coming international match. Whether he also advised him during the telephone conversation about leaving Manchester United? “I can’t say anything about that,” Van Gaal replied. “I spoke with him for about 45 minutes. It is also about other matters than just his role in the Dutch national team. But I can’t say anything about that, I think. That’s something between Donny and me.”

“That is often also a one-way street,” Driessen responds in a video on the website of The Telegraph on the conversation between Van Gaal and Van de Beek. “That has not only to do with the Dutch national team, but also with the whole situation in which Donny van de Beek finds himself. He undoubtedly advised him to move to another club as soon as possible.” Van de Beek was frequently on the bench at Manchester United last season and also seems to have to settle for a supporting role under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season.

Driessen therefore thinks that Van de Beek would do well to leave Manchester United. The midfielder is still struggling with stiff competition at Old Trafford. “Somewhere where he can play, because otherwise he will be completely out of the picture for the Dutch national team,” says Driessen about the possible next destination of the ex-Ajacied. “But he also gets out of the picture to possibly make a nice transfer. If you haven’t played football for two years, then the clubs are really not lining up.”
