National coach Louis van Gaal has announced the final selection of the Dutch national team for the decisive World Cup qualifiers against Montenegro and Norway. The coach has called up 24 players. Tim Krul (Norwich City), Owen Wijndal (AZ), Devyne Rensch (Ajax), Steven Bergwijn (Tottenham Hotspur), Cody Gakpo (PSV) and Luuk de Jong (Barcelona) are the six dropouts compared to the pre-selection.

Van Gaal had included thirty players in his pre-selection. “That is deliberately a bit more than normal,” he explained through the channels of the KNVB last month. “However, we are currently dealing with boys who are struggling with injuries. And a number of internationals have few playing minutes in their legs. Hence the choice for a somewhat larger group.” Gakpo, among others, was in the pre-selection, but is still not fit and is therefore missing in the coming international period. The the Dutch selection will report in Zeist next Tuesday.

The the Dutch squad is in the lead in Group G of the qualifying series with nineteen points. Norway (seventeen points), Turkey (fifteen points) and Montenegro (eleven points) also have a chance to qualify for the World Cup. The the Dutch squad will play against Montenegro in Podgorica on Saturday, November 13, and three days later in Rotterdam against Norway.
