Ruud Gullit does not understand why Noa Lang does not get a chance with the Dutch national team. The left winger of Club Brugge was good for two goals against KV Oostende (3-0 win) on Friday and is at the top of the Belgian Pro League with his team. Louis van Gaal has complained several times about the lack of good wingers in the Dutch, but Gullit points to Lang’s performance in Belgium.

Lang was good for 4 goals and 4 assists in 8 official games this season; last season he made 38 appearances, 17 goals and 11 assists. “Look at him! Why isn’t anyone looking at him?” Gullit wonders, as he Rondo see footage of Lang’s goals on Friday. “It seems like nobody wants to see it, because he shows it almost every week. It’s really unbelievable. I never hear anyone talk about him around the Dutch national team. I don’t know why. I’m very curious about it.”

Marco van Basten suggests that Lang is not in the picture with the Dutch because of his ‘mentality’. “But the toughest guys were usually good,” Gullit points out, adding with a laugh: “I was really tough myself.” In his eyes, Lang has ‘something incredible’ as a player, but according to Van Basten, a national coach will automatically knock on the door if a player is ‘really good’. “I really hope so, because it’s nearby,” said Gullit. The 22-year-old Lang participated in the first part of the European Championship with the Dutch Juniors in the spring, but was not selected for the second part because, according to the KNVB, he was not match fit. He played eight international matches for the Dutch Juniors and is no longer available for that team due to his age.
