Liverpool handed Manchester United a humiliating defeat in the Premier League. The team of trainer Jürgen Klopp won 0-5 on Sunday, partly due to a hat trick from star Mohamed Salah. It is the biggest away win that Liverpool have ever recorded over Manchester United. Liverpool beat Manchester United 5-0 once before, in 1925. The victory puts Liverpool in second place, one point behind leaders Chelsea. The troubled Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is seventh with his Manchester United.

It soon became clear that Manchester United were in for a painful match. After thirteen minutes, Liverpool were already leading 0-2. The first goal came from Naby Keita From midfield, Robert Firmino sent a pass to Salah, who in turn gave the rushing Keita to his right an unmissable opportunity. Face to face with goalkeeper David de Gea, the midfielder coolly searched the right corner. The 0-2 came from Diogo Jota, who was served just in front of the goal by a sharp ball from Trent-Alexander Arnold.

Manchester United’s poison cup was far from empty. In the final phase of the first half, Salah struck twice. His first goal was a close-range effort, after Keita’s preparatory work from the right wing. The Egyptian scored his 105th goal in the Premier League, replacing Didier Drogba as the highest-scoring African ever in the competition. Number 106 followed in the injury time of the first half, when Jota delivered the ball to the detached Salah in the penalty area.

Just before that, Cristiano Ronaldo had gotten away well by avoiding a red card. Ronaldo got involved in a duel for the ball with Curtis Jones at the back line. When the Liverpool midfielder went to the ground, Ronaldo delivered two kicks to his opponent. Jones was protected by the ball; Ronaldo only got a yellow card from referee Anthony Taylor. After the incident, Liverpool players came to talk to Ronaldo and Virgil van Dijk punched the Portuguese, who eventually walked away on his own.

Salah completed his hat-trick at the start of the second half. After Paul Pogba lost possession in midfield, Jordan Henderson sent a nice through ball to Salah with the outside of the foot, which was again effective when he surfaced for De Gea. Shortly afterwards, Ronaldo thought he could make the 1-5 with a powerful effort, but that goal was disallowed due to offside. The damage to Manchester United was further exacerbated when Anthony handed Pogba a red card after a VAR intervention for a charge on Keita. Seven minutes before the end, Edinson Cavani nevertheless had another chance, who hit the bar.
