Trainer Roger Schmidt has announced the line-up for PSV’s first meeting with Galatasaray in the second qualifying round of the Champions League. He opts for the same line-up as last week against PAOK Saloniki (1-0), while Galatasaray takes office with Ryan Babel. The match in the Philips Stadium starts on Wednesday evening at 9 p.m. The return game in Istanbul is scheduled for Wednesday, July 28.

Donyell Malen and Denzel Dumfries are not part of the PSV match selection. The two are given the space to make a transfer and did not play during the entire preparation. The suitability of Cody Gakpo as a starting player was questionable. The attacker returned from vacation last week, after his European Championship participation, and only fully trained a few times. Schmidt therefore chooses Yorbe Vertessen. His line-up does not differ from that in the last exhibition game a week ago.

If PSV survive the diptych with Galatasaray, it may again enter the qualification cycle for the main tournament of the Champions League on 3 or 4 August. The second match in the third heat will then follow on 10 August. Celtic or FC Midtjylland will be the opponent; those two teams drew 1-1 on Tuesday in their first meeting. PSV, Galatasaray, Celtic or FC Midtjylland have an unseeded status for the play-off draw, meaning that Benfica, Shakhtar Donetsk, KRC Genk or Spartak Moscow will form the last hurdle to the group stage of the Champions League.
