Spain and Poland balanced each other on Saturday evening. At halftime, the Spaniards still had a 0-1 lead, but in the second company Robert Lewandowski equalized: 1-1. Gerard Moreno failed to give Spain the victory from eleven meters after the break. The division of points means that Sweden (4 points) remains the leader in Group E, in which Slovakia (3) is second; Spain (2) and Poland (1) follow in third and fourth place.

Compared to the first group match with Sweden (0-0), national coach Luis Enrique changed his starting eleven in one position. Moreno, who was a substitute in the previous game, was preferred over Ferran Torres. At Poland, three changes were made after the lost game against Slovakia (1-2). The honors of the suspended Grzegorz Krychowiak were taken over by Jakub Moder, while Karol Linetty and Maciej Rybus had to make way for Karol Swiderski and Tymoteusz Puchacz respectively.

It was the Poles who created the first danger of the match in the sixth minute of play. Robert Lewandowski served Mateusz Klich, who tried his luck from a distance but shot just over. Spain then took the initiative and the opening goal was found in the 25th minute. Moreno cut in from the right and fired a shot from the left that landed at Morata’s feet. The striker tapped in from close range. Although the goal was initially disallowed for offside, the decision was corrected after viewing the video: 1-0.

Ten minutes later, Spain came close to scoring a second goal. After a foul by Kamil Glik on Dani Olmo, Moreno was allowed to land on the edge of the box for a free kick, but the bet went just wide of the left post. Before the break, Swiderski and Lewandowski had the equalizer on the shoe. First, Swiderski shot just over from about four meters from a cross from the Bayern Munich striker. The PAOK attacker then hit the post with a shot from outside the box, while Lewandowski hit goalkeeper Unai Simón from the rebound.

The score was leveled nine minutes after the break. Kamil Jozwiak was given space on the right to deliver a cross to Lewandowski, who towered over Aymeric Laporte and found the left corner with a header: 1-1. A few minutes later, Spain had the opportunity to undo the goal from eleven meters. Moder stepped on Moreno’s foot within the box, after which referee Daniele Orsato awarded a penalty on the advice of the video referee and after viewing the images. Moreno went behind the ball himself, but hit the post hard. Morata also failed to place the ball between the posts in the rebound.

In the remainder of the match, in particular La Roja looking for the winner. Luis Enrique tried to force a breakthrough by bringing in Torres, Fabián Ruiz and Pablo Sarabia. Rodri and Morata, among others, contributed, but their efforts did not yield the desired result. A few minutes before the end, Wojciech Szczesny kept Poland going when the goalkeeper lunged at the ball and prevented Morata from shooting in from close range.
