The French sports newspaper L’Equipe makes a big splash on Saturday with the alleged ‘XXL salary’ of Lionel Messi at Paris Saint-Germain. The newspaper ensures that it is aware of the conditions in the star’s contract with the Parisian top club. If Barcelona’s all-time top scorer stays with PSG for three years, he will earn a total of no less than 110 million euros gross.
On the front page of L’Equipe is today in full: 30 + 40 + 40. In this football year, the Argentine international can look forward to a compensation of thirty million euros and another ten million euros will be added next season. If he lifts the option in his contract, he will earn another 40 million in his third contract year. He owes the increase of ten million euros to a loyalty bonus.

If Messi, who turned 34 in June, had had the option to stay in Barcelona, his salary at the club of Ronald Koeman, Frenkie de Jong, Memphis Depay and Luuk de Jong would have been approximately equal to his current payslip. However, Barcelona were unable to comply with LaLiga financial regulations and had to let Messi go.
Messi’s salary, who grossed no less than €555 million in his last four years at Barcelona, matches that of Neymar, who extended his contract in May. Kylian Mbappe would earn less than Messi and Neymar with an annual salary of twelve million euros, but still refuses an improved contract with les Parisiens to sign.
