Arsenal lost to Everton on Friday evening. The Londoners were against the Toffees deserved more on the basis of the field game, but went down in a gigantic blunder by goalkeeper Bernd Leno, who made his own goal: 0-1. Prior to the game, hundreds of Arsenal supporters at their own stadium demanded the departure of club owner Stan Kroenke in a fierce protest. Everton remains in eighth place and can still hope for a Champions League ticket, while Arsenal remains ingloriously ninth.

Both teams were well matched in the first half. Arsenal had the ball the most, but Everton was the most dangerous. Lucas Digne crossed on Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who sent his hovering header from close range wide. After half an hour, Richarlison squeezed past Pablo Marí, but the Brazilian was unable to beat Leno from about twelve meters. A free kick by Gylfi Sigurdsson just before half time shaved the top of the bar.

Shortly after the break, Sigurdsson thought he was tapping in on a pass from Coleman, but Holgate managed to block the attempt by the Icelander. On the other side, Arsenal appeared to receive a penalty for an alleged Richarlison tap on the shin at Dani Ceballos, who was withdrawn minutes later due to offside in the run-up. Twelve minutes later, Calum Chambers just shot over from a free kick by Bukayo Saka.

Ceballos tried with a hard shot from the edge of the penalty area, which was blocked by Jordan Pickford. Arsenal seemed to have little fear of Everton in the second half, but fell behind fifteen minutes before the end. The low cross from Richarlison seemed easy to pick up for Leno, who hopelessly made a mistake and rolls the ball into the goal via his own foot: 0-1. Arsenal then showed offensive intentions and got a good chance in the person of Martinelli, whose punt was handled by Pickford.
