RB Leipzig has taken an important step towards qualifying for the Champions League. The team of Xavi Simons and Loïc Opena, among others, managed to win 1-2 when visiting FC Heidenheim. Wout Weghorst scored in the 4-3 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach.

In a sleep-inducing first half, Leipzig immediately took the lead with the first good chance. A cross from the side was not processed properly by Heidenheim, after which Benjamin Sesko volleyed the ball in through the ground.

In the second act Openda had a great chance to score 0-2. The Belgian attacker received a ball in the depth from Xavi Simons, but shot straight at the goalkeeper. Ultimately, the linesman also flagged it for offside.

Heidenheim came alongside in the 68th minute. An indirect free kick was headed back in front of the goal at the far post, where substitute Nikola Dovedan headed the ball against the ropes with his first touch: 1-1.

Five minutes before the end, Leipzig managed to win the match. Mohamed Simakan pulled the ball straight in front of the goal, where Openda was able to tap in his 23rd of the season.

Thanks to Leipzig's victory, the club can hardly avoid Champions League football next season. The club is fourth and three points ahead of Borussia Dortmund, which will play against Bayer Leverkusen later this weekend.

However, the number five of the Bundesliga also seems to be assured of a place in the first round of the billion-dollar ball. Due to the performances of Leverkusen, Dortmund and Bayern Munich, Germany still needs two more wins this season. If the three remaining teams succeed, the number five in the Bundesliga will also go to the Champions League.

TSG Hoffenheim – Borussia Mönchengladbach 4-3

Football was also played in Hoffenheim on Saturday afternoon. The home team started with Wout Weghorst in the starting line-up and he scored the opening goal in the 36th minute on a pass from Andrej Kramaric. Three minutes later, however, Robin Hack brought the teams level again.

The home team made it 3-1 through Grischa Pömel and Ozan Kabak. Hack then made it 3-2 and even 3-3, but Hoffenheim took the win in injury time thanks to Anton Stach.
