RB Leipzig no longer has a place in their own hands for the Champions League. The team of coach Domenico Tedesco lost 3-1 to Borussia Mönchengladbach on Monday evening and is therefore in fifth place, while only the top four enter the Champions League. Bayer Leverkusen took a good step towards the billion-dollar ball via a 2-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. With two games to go, the number three in the Bundesliga has a four point lead over number five Leipzig.

Bayer Leverkusen – Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1
Bayer Leverkusen, with Mitchel Bakker and Daley Sinkgraven on the bench, started the game well. After a first opportunity yielded nothing for the home team, it was in the eighteenth minute for Leverkusen. Moussa Diaby put the ball behind Eintracht’s defense with great feeling, after which Paulinho managed to find the net through the legs of goalkeeper Kevin Trapp: 1-0. Leverkusen kept pushing and was close to the second goal after half an hour of play. Charles Aránguiz managed to find Edmond Tapsoba with his free kick, but the defender couldn’t get the ball on target.

It was Robert Andrich who then killed a good chance. The midfielder received the ball from Sardar Azmoun, but decided to go for his own success and saw the ball go past the wrong side of the post. On the stroke of half-time there was the away team. Jens Petter Hauge dribbled past a number of defenders, but then couldn’t control the ball well enough to become dangerous. Shortly after the break, Patrik Schick made it 2-0. The striker saw a goal disallowed for offside for the second time in the game, but this time the decision was reversed. His goal therefore counted on the advice of Moussa Diaby.

Borussia Monchengladbach – RB Leipzig 2-0
Breel Embolo opened the scoring in the eighteenth minute of the entertaining game. The Swiss, who has been in excellent shape in recent weeks, luckily got the ball at his feet, after which he managed to chase the ball hard behind goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi: 1-0. After yellow cards back and forth, the game had a fascinating end to the first half. Christopher Nkunku, who is having a great season, got the ball from his attacking partner André Silva, before passing goalkeeper Yann Sommer with a watched ball in the far corner and thus scoring his eighteenth league goal: 1-1.

Both teams appeared to be in the locker room with a tie, but suddenly the home team was there again. Mönchengladbach captured the ball and Embolo saw his teammate Jonas Hofman go into the deep. Embolo put Hofman one-on-one with Gulácsi with a nice pass, after which the midfielder was able to round off with a cool head: 2-1. In the second half, Mönchengladbach had to continue with ten men, as Nico Elvedi was shown red for a foul on the broken through Nkunku. However, with ten men, the home team held their ground and even made it 3-1. Hofmann decided the game in favor of Mönchengladbach.
