Chuba Akpom does not yet know where his sporting future lies. During his debut season at Ajax, the English striker mainly proved his worth as a super sub and was involved in a goal every 74 minutes. Akpom has attracted the attention of several clubs and will list all options next summer.

In conversation with The Telegraph Akpom let us know that he is satisfied with the past season. “Because given the playing time I got and the situation at Ajax, I think I can look back on a good season. There were many difficult moments, but I always remained positive. This allowed me to make my contribution.”

Akpom made quite an impression at Middlesbrough two seasons ago and was subsequently able to sign in the Premier League, but ultimately opted for Ajax, where he mainly had to settle for a role as a backup behind Brian Brobbey.

The new football director Marijn Beuker previously announced opposite The Telegraph already indicates that he wants to provide clarity to the selection players. “If you have three strikers who all think they are going to start, as we had here, that is not useful,” Beuker referred to Brian Brobbey, Chuba Akpom and earlier Georges Mikautadze. “We will conduct a targeted search so that we can also give players a message about the role they will be given in the selection.”

The question remains whether Akpom sees another season on the second plan. Moreover, Ajax must first sell to strengthen the selection, which makes a departure of the English attacker seem realistic. Akpom itself is still in the dark about its sporting future. “To be honest, I don't know yet where I will be playing next season.”

“There is a lot of interest, but that is logical given the limited playing time I got and the number of goals I scored,” the striker continues. “I am now 28 and feel that I am at my best physically and mentally. My goal is always to play as high as possible and for the best team imaginable.”

Akpom once again emphasizes that it is well positioned in the market. “Not only am I doing well in the Premier League, but there is also contact with clubs from Germany and France. But I still have a contract with Ajax and maybe there will be a manager who really likes me. We'll see what happens in the summer.”
