Mateu Alemany to be Barcelona’s new football director, Joan Laporta has confirmed to Catalan radio station RAC1. The new president of Barcelona says he will do everything he can to add Alemany as a board member to the board of the Spanish superpower. The 58-year-old sports director last held a similar position at Valencia, where he was commercial director between 2017 and 2019. In addition, Ferran Reverter is appointed as the new CEO of Barcelona.

Alemany will show his face in several areas at Barcelona. “At Barcelona we have always had a director who prepares the basis for when the chairman will represent the club,” Laporta explains his choice for Alemany. “He will also support the technical secretariat, because Mateu has a senior football executive and I would like him to get involved. I value his knowledge very much. He is a person who knows what things are like in today’s football. We will be talking to each other about the collaboration in the very near future. ”

In November it was announced that Laporta had the wish to add Alemany to his team at Barcelona. As a director at Valencia, Alemany achieved good success with Valencia, which finished fourth under the driver in LaLiga in both seasons. In addition, the Copa del Rey was seized in the 2018/19 season. Earlier it was announced that Jordi Cruijff may soon be able to call himself the technical director of Barcelona. Laporta and Cruijff have a good relationship with each other and would meet at Camp Nou on Wednesday to close the deal.

In addition, the club has appointed Reverter as its new COE. The 48-year-old Reverter, who currently holds the same position at MediaMarktSaturn, must become the successor of Óscar Grau. The latter was one of four arrested in a police raid last week at Barcelona headquarters. “Reverter will be responsible for reorganizing and transforming the organization as a result of the new course we are going to take with the club. That will be done in a serene and calm way ”, concluded Laporta.
