Luis Enrique has no appetite for a possible return to Barcelona. The national coach of Spain was asked during a press conference on Thursday about the situation at his former club. Ronald Koeman does not have to fear that the Spaniard will sit on his chair. Enrique is not at all waiting for a return to the Camp Nou.

Koeman is under heavy pressure as a coach of Barcelona due to disappointing performances. After the 3-0 defeat to Benfica in the group stage of the Champions League, Spanish media assumed the Dutchman was well on his way to the exit. According to Mundo Deportivo and Sport Koeman will in any case remain at Barça until Saturday’s game against Atlético Madrid.

Luis Enrique was at the helm of the Catalans between 2014 and 2017, having previously coached Barcelona B. He does not want to hear anything about rumors of a return to Barcelona. “I don’t think Joan Laporta even has my phone number. I am not leaving the national team of Spain. I have a contract here and I respect that,” said the national coach, who played for Barcelona between 1996 and 2004.

Although Koeman will not be fired in the coming days, he is far from certain of his job. Barcelona would explore the options and rumors of possible successors have been circulating for weeks. Roberto Martínez, currently working as the national coach of Belgium, would be one of the candidates to succeed Koeman. Andrea Pirlo and Xavi are also reportedly on Laporta’s list.
