Barcelona president Joan Laporta and Jorge Messi, the father of Lionel Messi, will meet on Monday to discuss a possible return of the Argentine playmaker to Catalonia, transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano reported on Twitter. For a long time, Barcelona did not seem to have the financial means to bring Messi back to Catalonia, but LaLiga has given the green light to the plan that the club has submitted.

Laporta previously gave to the Spanish Sport that bringing Messi back will be a difficult task. Well, the president said los Azulgrana at the same time that the club is doing everything it can to bring in the 35-year-old Argentinian, but that it depended on whether LaLiga would agree to Barcelona’s proposal to raise the financial resources. That has now happened, says Romano.

Laporta then did not waste any time and immediately entered into talks with Messi senior to discuss a return. It is not yet clear what the outcome of the meeting will be. Messi played his last game for Paris Saint-Germain last weekend. The Barça icon was taken over by the Parisians on a free transfer in 2021, after Barcelona was no longer allowed to make a new contract proposal to the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner. However, Messi’s contract expires this summer with the French champion and so Messi can choose a new club.

In addition to his former employer, Inter Miami and the Saudi Arabian Al-Hilal also hope to acquire the Argentinian international. In Saudi Arabia, Messi can reportedly even earn a salary of four hundred million euros a year. Inter Miami, the club of owner David Beckham, has offered the world champion a less generous salary, but hopes that Messi will take his good experiences in the city of Miami into account in his decision.
