Chelsea will strengthen itself with Edouard Mendy in the short term, manager Frank Lampard confirms during the press conference in the run-up to the EFL Cup game with Barnsley. The French goalkeeper is currently undergoing a medical examination and if that does not cause any problems, he will exchange Stade Rennes for the Blues. Lampard also announced that Hakim Ziyech will soon be fit and deployable again.

Mendy’s upcoming medical examination at Chelsea was already reported on Monday evening, which will transfer up to thirty million euros to Stade Rennes and has a five-year contract ready for the 28-year-old goalkeeper. “Yes, Mendy is currently undergoing a medical check-up. If that doesn’t cause any problems, he will be a Chelsea player ”, Lampard confirms at the press moment in the run-up to the game that is scheduled for Tuesday evening. Against Barnsley, not Kepa Arrizabalaga, but Willy Caballero will be under the bar.

Kepa made a serious mistake last Sunday in the 0-2 loss against Liverpool with a hit by Sadio Mané. “The decision to let Caballero play in the EFL Cup had already been made. He trained brilliantly. There will be more competition with Mendy, Kepa has to get the most out of itself to force a basic place ”, says Goal from the mouth of the Chelsea manager. “In football you always live in the moment. At a club like Chelsea you just have to deal with competition, that’s normal. ”

Mendy will in any case not be present against Barnsley on Tuesday-evening, but Lampard has for the first time the disposal of Ben Chilwell, who came from Leicester City, and Thiago Silva, who came over from Paris Saint-Germain. The coach also shares a hopeful message about Ziyech, who has recently been sidelined with a knee injury sustained in the exhibition match against Brighton & Hove Albion. “Pulisic and Ziyech are also almost back”, Lampard said.
