Sam Lammers can return to the Eredivisie very quickly. FC Twente is currently betting on the quick arrival of the 27-year-old striker from Rangers, who impressed on loan at FC Utrecht in the past six months. Unlike Utrecht and NEC, Twente seems to be able to meet the financial conditions for the transfer, reports The Telegraph.

Rangers took over Lammers from Atalanta a year ago for over four million euros. The native of Tilburg did not settle in Scotland, but recovered on loan at FC Utrecht. Rangers would like to get rid of Lammers, who is putting a heavy burden on the budget with a salary of one and a half million per year.

The expectation of The Telegraph is that a transfer fee of three million euros including bonuses will be enough to lure Lammers away from Rangers. The striker is prepared to make some concessions himself, which has given FC Twente confidence in a definitive deal in recent days.

Twente said goodbye to Manfred Ugalde in January, who was sold to Spartak Moscow for no less than thirteen million euros. Myron Boadu was hired from AS Monaco as a temporary solution, but the attacker could not impress, partly due to physical problems.

Moreover, a longer stay of Boadu was financially difficult for Twente. The Tukkers tried to bring Wout Weghorst to the Grolsch Veste this summer. However, the experienced striker aroused more interest with his good performances at the European Championship with the Dutch national team. Twente has now given up on Weghorst's arrival.

Twente is keen to sign a new striker quickly, so he can play in the third preliminary round of the Champions League against Red Bull Salzburg. The first leg is in two weeks, on Tuesday 6 August.

For now, Twente is preparing for the new season with two centre forwards. The experienced Ricky van Wolfswinkel seems to be the first man for now, with the young Lucas Vennegoor of Hesselink behind him, the son of former international Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, who is currently working as technical manager of PSV.
