Teun Koopmeiners closed the Serie A in an unimaginable way on Sunday evening. Atalanta needed three points against Monza on the final day to secure fifth place and thus grab a group stage ticket for the Europa League. Thanks to a hat-trick from Koopmeiners, Atalanta passed with flying colors: 5-2. In particular, his last goal, which Koopmeiners made sixty meters from the goal and almost from the sidelines, will go viral.
Koopmeiners, who started in the base together with Marten de Roon, opened the score in an atypical way in the twelfth minute. The former was lined up as an attacking midfielder and headed in a Joakim Maehle cross: 1-0. Just before halftime, the former AZ player signed for his second of the evening. Michele Di Gregorio deflected Koopmeiners’ first shot, who calmly outplayed the goalkeeper in the rebound: 2-0. Monza, which was already more than safe, did something back six minutes after the break through Andrea Colpani, who placed the ball from eighteen meters beautifully into the cross. The midfielder comes from the youth at Atalanta and refused to cheer exuberantly.

After more than an hour, Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini was red for the umpteenth time because of comments on the lead. Another red card followed in the seventieth minute, this time for Monza midfielder Marlon. The substitute was cold in the field for a minute when he made a striking movement to his opponent during a running action. Atalanta then quickly walked away. Koopmeiners brought in low, after which Rasmus Højlund slid in: 3-1.
Koopmeiners fabulously completed his hat-trick in the 79th minute. The midfielder took possession of the ball on the sideline and saw Di Gregorio far in front of his goal. Koopmeiners surprised the Monza goalie with a fantastic shot from sixty meters: 4-1. It continued to rain goals in Bergamo, where Monza made it 4-2 within two minutes. It was Andrea Petagna who tapped in a cross from Nicolò Rovella. The final chord was in stoppage time for Luis Muriel, who, after an assist from Ademola Lookman, was able to shoot straight in front of the goal: 5-2.
