Bert Konterman will leave PEC Zwolle after this season. The current number thirteen in the Eredivisie announces on Thursday that the head coach will return to the KNVB as national coach of the the Dutch Under-19 this summer. Konterman was brought to Zwolle in February, after the club management decided to end the collaboration with John Stegeman after a series of disappointing results.

“I really like the position of head coach at PEC Zwolle. The club, staff, employees and supporters have offered me a very nice experience”, Konterman said in a statement on the website of the Zwolle middle engine. “It makes me realize once more that I would like to stand on my own two feet and that I do not currently aspire to the position of assistant coach. The Under-19 will be the highest youth team of the football association this season and offers me a wonderful challenge to work with the greatest talents in the country. to go for the highest possible final classification “, says Konterman.

“Bert informed me about the situation at the beginning of this week and actually I can only understand it”, technical manager Mike Willems responds to the impending departure of Konterman from Zwolle. “It is very nice that he was willing to step in in February to bring this season to a successful conclusion together with the group and staff. At the moment he is exactly half of his ten games at the helm of our club and so there will be enough points to be scored in the coming weeks to end the season as strong as possible “, concludes the technical person with ultimate responsibility of the Blauwvingers.

Konterman has a history with the KNVB. The outgoing coach of PEC was in the recent past as national coach responsible for the Under-18 and Under-20, among others. In addition, the former defender of Feyenoord and Rangers FC was associated with the Dutch Juniors for some time as an assistant coach. In March it was announced that Art Langeler will leave the KNVB this summer and will return to PEC as head coach.
