Latest update:

Ronald Koeman reached the semi-finals of the European Championship with the Dutch national team on Saturday after a 2-1 victory over Turkey. Despite the joy, the national coach of the Dutch national team did not complete the entire press conference. After the arrival of Stefan de Vrij, Koeman decided to leave the press early, despite the request from UEFA to stay.

Koeman had to intervene at half-time after being 1-0 down. The national coach brought in Wout Weghorst for Steven Bergwijn. “If you think you have to make a substitution, then you make a substitution,” Koeman believes. “Those are choices you make. If things aren't going well, then you are a coach to make substitutions. Then I don't think I should claim this success, not at all.”

According to Koeman, the Netherlands has a broad selection. “From the beginning I said that we have such a large group with so many players who can play in the same position, but can still give it a different meaning.”

The Netherlands will play England in the semi-final. Koeman already has a clear preference for which country he would like to face in the final. “I want to emphasize that we will have to beat England first, but then my personal preference would of course be Spain, because we already met France in the group.”

Shortly afterwards, De Vrij joined Koeman. The national coach had had enough and stood up. “He's done,” De Vrij explained to the surprised UEFA lady who was at the press moment.

Koeman was not supposed to just leave. “Oh no, we would like to continue with you two,” said the UEFA woman. “No, it's okay like this. It's his turn now,” said Koeman, pointing to De Vrij, the scorer of the 1-1 against Turkey. Koeman then walked away from the hall to the surprise of the crowd.
