Wim Kieft is shocked by the way in which ‘our two top coaches’ have presented themselves last weekend. The former striker writes in his column The Telegraph that Erik ten Hag ‘has quite lost his way’ and that Dick Advocaat at the same time ‘is just as wrong’. “When you are there as a player, you think: be a normal man,” said Kieft.
“If you consider the behavior of our two top coaches at the two largest clubs in the Netherlands, then you are quite shocked”, the former the Dutch striker starts his critical note to Advocaat and Ten Hag. The latter ‘acted terribly’ according to Kieft by imitating Louis van Gaal at the championship party on the parking deck at the Johan Cruijff ArenA and then being critical of the corona policy pursued in the Netherlands. “Being Ajax, it is best to step on the brakes if your trainer positions himself like that and steps out like this”, says Kieft.
Kieft is also not satisfied with the actions of Advocaat. The columnist finds the way in which the Feyenoord trainer ‘shuts off responsibility’ regrettable. “After Feyenoord’s failure at ADO Den Haag, he asked his players the confidence question for the second time in ten weeks. They had to let them know if they still wanted to continue with him. Nothing is easier than pointing to the players, shifting responsibility and thus exonerating yourself ”, says Kieft, who believes that Advocaat ‘should draw his own conclusions’.
In addition, the 43-time international is also not satisfied with the way in which Lawyer deals with Steven Berghuis. Kieft thinks that the trainer wrongly ‘keeps out of the wind’ Berghuis. “Feyenoord is at the mercy of his whims and the Lawyer accepts it because he needs him. He is even happy that Berghuis takes two red cards under the guise of a winning mentality. That is not necessary at all, is it? “In the meantime, Berghuis avoids the misery caused by his suspension and focuses more on the Dutch national team than on Feyenoord”, Kieft concludes.
