Genoa returns to Serie A after only a year of absence. The team of coach Alberto Gilardino was 2-1 too strong for Ascoli on Saturday, so that I Rossoblu can no longer be traced for number three Bari. With Kevin Strootman in the starting line-up, Genoa took a 2-0 lead in its own Stadio Luigi Ferraris. After the home team failed to close the game from the penalty spot, things got tense after Davide Marsura’s connection goal. Genoa, however, held on and is promoted to Serie A with leader Frosinone.
Particularities
After fifteen minutes of play, Genoa received a corner kick, which initially did not score. A header hit the crossbar, after which Mattia Bani was ready to tap in the rebound: 1-0. In the 63rd minute, Genoa made it 2-0 through Massimo Coda. The attacker was able to shoot in at the far post after Ascoli did not process a free kick properly. Moments later, Massimo Coda had a chance to make it 3-0 from the penalty spot, but missed.
Barely two minutes later, Massimo Coda made it 2-1 on a pass from Michele Collocolo, so that the tension was completely back. Genoa, however, held its own and can report again in Serie A next season. The chance is nil that the derby against Sampdoria will be on the program next season. Gate closer Samp only stands a theoretical chance of enforcement.
