Kenneth Vermeer is likely to continue his career at FC Cincinnati. Various US media, including ESPN, report that the 35-year-old goalkeeper is in talks with the club of trainer Jaap Stam and will probably remain active in Major League Soccer (MLS). Vermeer can be picked up transfer-free after leaving Los Angeles FC two weeks ago.

The timing for Vermeer’s departure from LAFC was striking, as the season in the MLS was about to begin at the time. Cincinnati does not have a happy start to the season, with a draw against Nashville (2-2) and a significant defeat against New York FC (5-0). With Przemyslaw Tyton (ex-Roda JC Kerkrade and -PSV), Cody Cropper, Ben Lundt and Beckham Sunderland, Stam already has four keepers at his disposal.

Despite this, Cincinnati has had little stability under the bar, partly because Tyton was struggling with injuries. That is why it has been decided to bring in Vermeer. The goalkeeper joins a Dutch enclave that, in addition to Stam, consists of Maikel van der Werff, Jürgen Locadia, Kamohelo Mokotjo, Haris Medunjanin, assistant coach Said Bakkati and general manager Gerard Nijkamp.

Stam and Vermeer are no strangers to each other, as they played together at Ajax in the 2006/07 season. The five-time the Dutch-international then played for Feyenoord and Club Brugge, before ending up in the United States a year ago. In his first, and later only, season for LAFC, he made fifteen appearances.
