Bruno Martins Indi made a big blunder in the first half of the Conference League match against FK Bodø/Glimt. Although the Alkmaarders enjoy a 2-1 lead halfway through, the analysts of ESPN Not at all pleased with the performance of the center defender of AZ. The critical words have everything to do with a double blunder in the equalizer of the Norwegians.

Martins Indi played an important role in AZ’s opening goal. He put the ball behind the last line from his own half. Vangelis Pavlidis was earlier at the ball than the far out goalkeeper Nikita Haikin, who was technically passed around by the Greek striker. Although Pavlidis was relatively far from the outside of the box, he curled the ball into the far corner: 1-0. With the equalizer it went wrong for Martins Indi.

After a pass from midfield, he didn’t realize that Runar Espejord was walking out of his back. The latter was able to lob the ball over goalkeeper Vindahl Jensen, but Martins Indi seemed to save on the goal line. However, the centre-back made an even worse mistake by putting the ball a few meters away for Amahl Pellegrino, who finished from close range. Although Pavlidis made up for his teammate’s mistake after exactly half an hour of play and gave his team the lead again, Martins had to pay for it in the break.

Analyst Kenneth Perez is clearly in the studio of ESPN† “He doesn’t know at all that there is someone behind his back. And then… Calm down man! Now shoot him normally!” The ability to orientate is important for defenders, according to Perez. “If you can orient yourself, you are also calm.” At the same time, Marciano Vink is very pleased with Pavlidis’ performance, although he regrets the mistake of Martins Indi. “It is going well at AZ, but it is just a shame that they give away a goal in this way. Uncalled for!”
