Jürgen Klopp will not be the new coach of the United States, journalist David Ornstein reported in an article for the New York TimesThe German coach wants to take at least a year off after leaving Liverpool, before thinking about a return to football.

The board of the American Soccer Federation contacted the currently clubless Klopp last week through an intermediary. The 57-year-old German entered into the conversation, but is now passing on the offer. Team USAAccording to Ornstein, the Americans hope that Klopp will change his mind in the near future.

The Independent announced on Thursday that Klopp should become the new national coach of the United States. The experienced coach is seen in American football circles as the ideal successor to Gregg Berhalter (50), who was fired after a disappointing Copa América in his own country.

The idea was that Klopp would guide the United States, as one of the host countries, to a better World Cup in 2026. As it turns out, Klopp is abandoning the American adventure, although the football association continues to hope for the former Liverpool manager's yes.

Quest

The United States will have to find a new national coach, it became clear this week. The USSF – the country's soccer association – fired Berhalter after the dramatic Copa América, in which Team USA was sent home after the group stage.

Berhalter was at the helm for about eleven months, after having led the US national team for four years. In March, the former player of Sparta Rotterdam and SC Cambuur, among others, captured the CONCACAF Nations League title.

Although Klopp has indicated that he wants to rest after his departure from England, the American Football Association still thinks that he can convince him. Former goalkeeper Tim Howard, who played 121 times for the United States, would like to help. He said this in an interview with the Daily Mail.

“If I was in charge, I would fly to Spain and visit Jurgen Klopp. I think I could convince him to take the job with the American federation,” Howard said.
