Borussia Dortmund feels robbed after the 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in the first meeting of the quarter-final in the Champions League. Jude Bellingham scored on behalf of the visitors in the first half, but his goal was disallowed because he committed a foul on City goalkeeper Ederson in the eyes of the arbitration. The Dortmund midfielder also received a yellow card for his action. Bellingham is not aware of any harm and feels that the VAR should have intervened because it was Ederson who committed the offense on him.

The game had been underway for 37 minutes when Ederson took the ball outside the penalty area. The moment he wanted to kick the ball away, Bellingham intervened and was able to score in an empty goal. Referee Ovidiu Hategan was convinced that Bellingham had committed a foul and rejected the goal, while the footage showed that it was Ederson who unluckily committed the foul. As Hategan whistled for the foul before the ball rolled over the goal line, the VAR was unable to intervene. The yellow card of the seventeen-year-old talent was therefore not reversed.

The frustration was therefore great at Bellingham. “I am convinced that I took the ball fairly,” the teenager said to the camera after the game. BT Sport. “It’s a bit frustrating when this happens in an age where cameras are everywhere.” Bellingham says he regrets that the referee did not wait with the whistle until the ball was over the goal line. “Then they could have checked it. But this is football, this is life. We have to keep going. All I was told is that I got a yellow card and City a free kick, ”said Bellingham.

Dortmund coach Edin Terzic was also deeply disappointed about the decision, although he remained respectful towards the arbitration. “I know how difficult it is for a referee,” he added Sky. “Of course I would have liked him to have let Jude score and then see if it was the correct decision. This is extremely annoying. Unfortunately this is part of football, it is not only we sometimes make mistakes. ” City came to 1-0 after nineteen minutes through Kevin De Bruyne. In the final phase, Marco Reus signed for the 1-1, after which Phil Foden secured the victory for City in the ninetieth minute. The return in Dortmund will follow Wednesday (9 p.m.) next week.
