Joshua Zirkzee’s rental period at Parma is already threatening to end. The Italian club communicates through official channels that the nineteen-year-old striker has sustained an outer knee ligament injury. In the near future, Zirkzee will be examined by the medical staff of Bayern Munich, after which it will be determined whether he needs surgery on his knee.

Zirkzee’s temporary contract with Parma is not yet a resounding success anyway. The youth international has four games for the current number nineteen of the Serie A to his name, all as a substitute. He also had to miss three games due to an injury and was once on the reserve bench for ninety minutes. In the 108 minutes that he got in 4 games, he was not yet involved in a goal. In the pecking order, Zirkzee has to make do with a place behind Graziano Pellè.

BILD wrote last week that it is unlikely that Parma will exercise the option to buy in the lease with Bayern – which amounts to fifteen million euros. There would then be a ‘difficult situation’ for Zirkzee, as Bayern is satisfied with Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. Robert Lewandowski’s stand-in could soon look forward to a contract extension, according to the German newspaper. It would mean that Zirkzee will be the third striker at the German top club next season.

In any case, it now seems that the rental period of Zirkzee at Parma ends immediately. “Joshua Zirkzee has injured the outer knee ligaments. He will be examined in consultation with Bayern’s medical staff and may need surgery, ”Parma writes in a statement on the website. Parma currently has ten games to play in this Serie A season and Zirkzee is not part of the selection for Saturday afternoon’s away game against Benevento.
