The corona infection that was diagnosed with Joshua Kimmich last Wednesday provides the 26-year-old midfielder of Bayern Munich curiously enough. Kimmich saves a ‘fine’ of more than 100,000 euros thanks to his positive PCR test, calculates BILD. Kimmich would otherwise have lost that amount due to his mandatory quarantine.

That’s it: Last Thursday, Bayern announced to its players that it would no longer pay salaries to its unvaccinated players in case they have to quarantine. For Kimmich, that announcement followed a day later (on Friday): the midfielder had been in contact with an infected person and was thus obliged to home isolation for seven days.

Kimmich is known to add around twenty million euros annually, which comes down to a sloppy 55,000 euros per day. That amount was withheld from his salary from Friday to Tuesday, but on Wednesday Kimmich also tested positive for corona. From that moment on, Bayern was no longer legally allowed to withhold a salary, because the German is considered a sick person from that point on. Kimmich thus keeps his salary for Wednesday and Thursday, the days he would normally still be in quarantine: a saving of around 110,000 euros.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting also tested positive for corona on Wednesday. Kimmich’s teammate, who was also unvaccinated, is therefore also entitled to a salary from that moment on. Serge Gnabry and Jamal Musiala have since had themselves vaccinated, while Michaël Cuisance, according to BILD still considering doing that.
