Top players, but also clubs from home and abroad, provide an insight into the ins and outs of the football world (almost) every day via Instagram, X or other internet channels. In this edition of VZ Social attention to FC Twente defender Joshua Brenet, who has nothing good to say about referee Joey Kooij.

The Tukkers lost in extremis during the league match with PSV (0-1) on Sunday evening due to a goal by Ricardo Pepi. A day after the defeat, Brenet expressed his dissatisfaction with the performance of referee Kooij.

The 32-year-old referee disallowed a goal by coach Ron Jans' team immediately after half-time and gave Twente defender Gijs Smal a yellow card in injury time when the score was 0-0 for wasting time.

“Damn this one was painful. 12 against 11. Well, then it becomes difficult… Great game. Great. Unprecedented,” Brenet posted cynically. “Despite that, proud of the team and supporters. ??????”

Brenet's post can count on praise from some of his teammates. Myron Boadu, Sem Steijn, Daan Rots and Mitchell van Bergen all respond with a heart. Steijn and Rots also call the defender of Twente 'a legend'.

Patrick van Aanholt and Boy Waterman made themselves heard from the PSV camp with a number of laughing emojis.
