Johnny Jansen has found a new club. More than a year after his resignation from sc Heerenveen, the 48-year-old coach starts working at Safa SC, which plays in the highest football league in Lebanon. The number five in the Lebanese league has not won seven games in a row in all competitions, giving Jansen the clean task of starting the upward trend.

Jansen was born in Heerenveen and was appointed assistant coach in the first team in 2005. From 2000 he worked in various coaching positions at the club. He was in charge of several youth teams and worked with Dwight Lodeweges, Foppe de Haan and Jurgen Streppel, among others. After the dismissal of Jan Olde Riekerink, he took over the baton, first temporarily and later permanently.

From the 2019/20 season, Jansen stood on his own feet for the first time, when he gained the confidence of Heerenveen and was allowed to stay on as head coach. Under the leadership of Jansen, the Frisians finished tenth and twelfth consecutively in the Eredivisie. In January 2022, after a number of disappointing results, the club management had seen enough and Jansen was relieved of his position.

With Safa SC, the born Frisian has found a new job more than a year after his dismissal at Heerenveen. The club from Beirut is fifth in the national league. Last season, the team finished in tenth place. Including the most recent cup match at the beginning of April, Safa has not won in seven games. It is not known how long Jansen signed in Lebanon.
