Latest update:

John van 't Schip will not continue as head coach of Ajax next season, the sixty-year-old coach confirmed during Thursday's press conference. The trainer is still in discussions with the Amsterdam club management about what role he may play in the Johan Cruijff ArenA. Van 't Schip and Ajax are therefore definitively adhering to the deadline agreed in October.

During the recent international match, Van 't Schip had an extensive conversation with Alex Kroes, who has been employed as the new general manager of Ajax since March 15. “There were few players who stayed behind, so we did discuss my future with the club management.”

According to the leader, the driven Kroes is in discussions with several Ajax employees. “Alex is talking to a lot of people, including me. About what the content of next season could be. We are discussing that. This is a collaboration for several years. That is the wish of Ajax and myself,” Van 't Schip clarifies.

In any case, Van 't Schip will not continue in his current position. “It remains to be seen in what role that will be, it is clear that it will be in a different role. Not as a head coach. ” It is not yet known when Ajax wants to appoint a new trainer.

Van 't Schip was appointed on October 30 to replace the dismissed Maurice Steijn. Since the club icon took over, Ajax has played 26 official matches. The Amsterdam team managed to win twelve matches, eight matches ended in a draw and six times Ajax came out on the short end.

In recent months, Van 't Schipschip has received a lot of praise for his brave entry into the unstable Ajax. “We know Johnny all very good. It's a friend of mine and you can see sadness on his face. I feel sorry for him and I feel very sorry for him. He is tired,” said Rob Jansen in the podcast KieftJansenEgmondGijp.

“A lot of people have already forgotten that he joined Ajax just after the death of his wife Danielle,” the agent continued. “It's fantastic that he did this, but I can read from his head: 'Damn it, guys. I'm having a hard time.'”
