Peter Bosz thinks that Joey Veerman was far too critical of himself after his performance against Poland (1-2) two weeks ago. The midfielder delivered a very weak performance against Austria (2-3 defeat), but the PSV coach prefers not to say too much about that.

“Joey Veerman put himself down too much after the first group match of the Dutch team. He was far too critical of himself. He certainly didn't do that badly in the first half,” Bosz emphasized on Tuesday at PSV's first press conference of the new season.

“Of course I know the cause. But it's not about me to point that out,” Bosz refuses to pass judgement on the early substitution Koeman made against Austria. The PSV coach spoke to Veerman a few times during the European Championship, but right after the debacle against the Austrians he left the midfielder alone for a while.

“He's already received so many messages and apps. What we discussed? That wasn't all that exciting,” said Bosz. Veerman is expected to start on the bench in the eighth final match between the Dutch national team and Romania on Tuesday.

Bakayoko

Bosz saw Johan Bakayoko and Belgium get knocked out by France. The winger sat on the bench for 90 minutes on Monday. Bakayoko didn't start in any match and missed a big chance against Slovakia (0-1 defeat).

“I can't imagine that was decisive in not using him anymore”, a day after the elimination of the Belgian team. “I don't make the choices. But one moment like that can never be so decisive.”

Bosz knows that Bakayoko is being followed by several European top clubs, although there are no concrete talks with PSV yet. “Not much is happening yet. That will probably all start later.”
