Joël Drommel appeared on Saturday shortly after his blunder against Willem II (2-1 loss) in front of the camera of ESPN. The PSV goalkeeper, who let a shot from Ché Nunnely slip, admits his mistake frankly and predicts that this will not happen to him again. “These are the most difficult matches for a keeper,” says Drommel.

Willem II only shot three times in total, only one of which went on target: Nunnely’s goal. PSV countered that with 25 shots, 9 of which on target. “You see that Timon Wellenreuther gets a lot to do and then you only grow in the game”, Drommel also knows. “I get almost nothing to do and if one ball comes, you have to stand there. Especially now that I play at a top club in the Netherlands, you get less to do and you have to stand there. That does not happen. big mistake and that’s why we lose today.”

Drommel is asked by Hans Kraay junior whether he was already working on the sequel after his possible rescue. “No, I was not working on the sequel. You just want to clamp it and it just slips through, well … bad”, says Drommel, who says that this almost never happens to him. “It’s not going to happen again. It’s very painful. I just feel really shitty. Let’s forget this quickly. What I like is that the guys are right behind me, saying, ‘Head up.’ As a goalkeeper this is part of it and you have to deal with it quickly and move on. I feel really, really shit.”

Kenneth Perez is mild to Drommel after the interview. “An excellent response,” said the analyst. “I don’t agree with him saying it’s never going to happen to him because you can’t say that. This is also something that would normally never happen to him, but Hugo Lloris did something like that once, I remember , and that’s a world goalkeeper. It just happens so unfortunate. It’s not really a technical foul or that he can’t keep goal now all of a sudden. This happens to you and it really sucks.”
