Jeroen Zoet made his comeback in Serie A on Saturday. The goalkeeper was under the bar for the first time in five months at Spezia, which had to settle for a split against Benevento and can be found in fourteenth place in the Italian league: 1-1. Zoet had made his last playing minutes on September 30 last year, in the 0-2 victory over Udinese.
At the time, Zoet got injured his groin after more than an hour of play and had to watch for several weeks. When the ex-keeper of PSV and FC Utrecht, among others, had recovered, he lost his starting place to Ivan Provedel. The Italian was missing against Benevento on Saturday due to a positive corona test, giving Zoet a chance from head coach Vincenzo Italiano.
Adolfo Gaich opened the scoring for the visitors in the 24th minute with an effective shot from a difficult angle. Daniele Verde took care of the deserved equalizer in the 71st minute. In Spezia’s final offensive, Martin Erlic still headed the crossbar.
