Jefferson Farfán is about to return to Alianza Lima, the South American branch knows ESPN to report. The 36-year-old winger has been without a club for more than six months, after leaving Lokomotiv Moscow last summer. Alianza Lima, through an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS), managed to stay at the highest level of Peru, which made the arrival of Farfán possible.

Farfán started his professional career with Alianza Lima, the 23-time champion of Peru. After having played in the main squad of the Peruvian top club for two seasons, PSV brought him to Europe for 3.5 million euros. Farfán would play for four years in Eindhoven, where he scored 66 goals and 24 assists in 170 appearances and added four league titles and a TOTO KNVB Cup to his palmares. Schalke 04 paid ten million euros in the summer of 2008 to loosen Farfán at PSV.

The 94-time international of Peru then ended up at Lokomotiv Moscow via Al-Jazira from the United Arab Emirates, where he spent the last four years and celebrated a Russian league title. Farfán had been without a club since August, after leaving Lokomotiv Moscow. The attacker has now chosen to return to Alianza Lima after seventeen years, which in the coming season – which will run over a calendar year – will ‘just’ be at the highest level in Peru.

Alianza Lima actually finished in eighteenth place last season with 26 points, one point less than Carlos Stein. The superpower seemed to be relegated from the highest level, but went to the CAS due to financial irregularities at Carlos Stein. The highest sports tribunal ruled in favor of Alianza Lima, as a result of which Carlos Stein was deducted two points and relegated. Alianza Lima remains active at the highest level and was therefore able to bring Farfán back. In Peru, people talk about ‘a dream that becomes reality’.
