The fact that Ajax’s board of directors has announced his departure has no influence on the decision to compensate the supervisory board. That writes The parole Thursday evening. Insiders within Ajax confirm to the Amsterdam newspaper that ‘the remuneration decision’ will be ratified at a shareholders’ meeting on Friday. Jan van Halst, among others, can look forward to 50,000 euros in the coming year.

Late on Wednesday evening it was announced that the entire board of Ajax will resign by September 1 at the latest. The members of the most powerful body within Ajax (chairman Frank Eijken, Wendy Nagel, Sander Mallie and Marc Stuut) indicated at the general meeting of members that they feel too little confidence and therefore want to resign their duties. This breach of trust mainly arose when the much-discussed remuneration decision was taken. Supervisory Board chairman Pier Eringa and football commissioner Van Halst, among others, would therefore receive about 50,000 euros on an annual basis.

The remuneration decision caused a lot of internal resistance at Ajax, including within the boardroom. Board members Ruud Haarms and Mike Harman therefore decided to resign at an earlier stage. Now that their former colleagues have also waived their duties, this does not mean that the remuneration decision will be reversed. According to Eijken, Friday only constitutes a formal ratification and the decision has already been taken in principle.

The parole speaks of slightly different amounts than previously mentioned by the media. The ‘regular’ supervisory directors will receive 25,000 euros on an annual basis, to which an additional 10,000 euros will be added for chairman of the supervisory board Eringa. Van Halst will be a big earner in the supervisory board with a total salary of 45,000 euros.
