James Rodriguez is very likely to return to FC Porto, the club where he was under contract between 2010 and 2013. Various English media have reported in recent days that the Colombian is being used by Everton as a bargaining chip for a deal in which Luis Díaz has to go the opposite way. Fabrizio Romano reports on Saturday that an agreement has come closer.

According to the Italian transfer expert, Everton is confident in a good outcome. An agreement is expected with Porto to permanently bring the 24-year-old Colombian into the house. James Rodriguez, whose contract at Goodison Park runs for another year with an option for another year, will return to Porto if the parties involved agree on the veteran’s salary.

Díaz is an eighteen-time Colombian international. He normally plays left in midfield, while he can also attack on both flanks. Porto took him over from Junior FC in the summer of 2019 for an amount of more than seven million euros. In Portugal, he has increased his market value considerably. Transfermarkt estimates its current value at 25 million euros.

James Rodríguez has been under contract with since the summer of last year the Toffees. Technical director Marcel Brands took him over from Real Madrid on a free transfer at the time. Last season, the attacking midfielder made 23 Premier League appearances, scoring 6 times. He ended up at Porto in 2010, which took him over from Club Atlético Banfeld for more than seven million euros at the time. Three years later, he was bought by AS Monaco for 45 million euros.
