Jadon Sancho has commented live on Twitter to events during the game of his Borussia Dortmund team visiting Manchester City. The 21-year-old attacker is at home due to a muscle injury and saw on television how the 1-1 of Dortmund was wrongly rejected by referee Ovidiu Hategan in his eyes. “This referee needs to be checked,” Sancho writes.

City took the lead in the first half thanks to a goal from Kevin De Bruyne. Dortmund thought to equalize via Jude Bellingham, who sniped the ball off of City goalkeeper Ederson and could continue towards the goal. Ederson kicked the bottom of Bellingham’s foot, who was simply faster at the ball. Still, Hategan thought it was a foul by the Dortmund midfielder, to the dismay of Sancho.

The club itself has also responded. “Niemals.“, writes BVB on Twitter. The German term translates into English no way: an exclamation of disbelief. In another tweet, Dortmund only sends five question marks in a row.

Youri Mulder speaks in the studio of Ziggo Sport shame of the moment. “The problem is that he whistles too early,” said the former attacker. “He has to let it go first and then you can always judge the moment after that. There’s nothing wrong at all. Just let it go on! It’s incredible.”

Earlier this season, Hategan was the referee in the Champions League game between Paris Saint-Germain and Istanbul Basaksehir, which was halted by the Romanian due to an alleged racism incident.
