PSV no longer counts on Mauro Júnior this season, trainer Roger Schmidt said on Friday at the press conference for Sunday’s game with Fortuna Sittard. The multifunctional Brazilian has suffered a serious knee injury and was therefore missing from the selection for the match with Ajax (1-1) on Sunday. Schmidt does not think he will have access to his 21-year-old pupil this season.

Mauro Júnior’s injury is a major setback for Schmidt. The PSV trainer did not appeal to the South American in only five Eredivisie games this season, who remarkably enough played as a left back, right back, attacking midfielder and striker. As a substitute, he decided the away match against FC Emmen on January 26 (0-2 win) with a goal and an assist.

Mauro Júnior sustained the injury during a training session prior to the match against Ajax, he let his followers know via Instagram. “So disappointed to miss tomorrow’s game,” he wrote with a photo on his Instagram Stories. It showed that Mauro Júnior is wearing a fabric knee brace around his left leg. What exactly is wrong with his knee is not yet known.
