Jaap Stam returns as coach, two and a half years after his dismissal from FC Cincinnati. The former defender has committed to DOS Kampen, the club where it all started for him as a football player. Stam signs for one season with DOS, in his own words 'the only amateur association he says yes to'. He will also continue his work as an analyst.

The 51-year-old coach was last at the helm of a club in September 2021. Stam then trained in American Cincinnati, where he was fired due to disappointing results.

The 67-time Dutch international then started working as an analyst at Viaplay and the BBC, among others. He will continue these activities, Stam said in a statement on the DOS club website.

“We made good agreements about this during the negotiations and have come to the conclusion that this can be easily combined with being a trainer at DOS,” says the Rock of Kampen record.

“I look forward to helping my old club further develop its youth and first team. That is also the reason I am taking up this challenge. DOS is the only amateur association that I say yes to.”

Stam's coaching career so far cannot be called an unqualified success. Things were going reasonably well at PEC Zwolle, but the legendary former defender was dismissed from his position early at Reading, Feyenoord and FC Cincinnati.

DOS Kampen currently plays in the Second Division Saturday, the seventh football level in the Netherlands. Stam himself played for the club until he was twenty, before he was scouted by the then FC Zwolle.
