The Italian Ministry of Justice has filed a request for the extradition of Robinho in Brazil. The 38-year-old former attacker was sentenced to nine years in prison by the supreme court in Italy in January for his part in a gang rape of a young woman in 2013. However, Brazil does not extradite civilians to other countries, so Robinho has yet to receive his sentence. to avoid. The Italian state now wants to put a stop to that.

The incident in which the case revolves dates from the night of January 22 to 23, 2013. Robinho became involved with his friend Ricardo Falco in the gang rape of a 23-year-old Albanian woman just over nine and a half years ago, it is now established. In total, the offender group consisted of six people. The case took place in a nightclub in Milan; Robinho was active as a player for AC Milan at the time.

In 2017, the Brazilian was found guilty and therefore convicted, since then the appeal has been pending. The lawyers for the 100-time Brazilian international also argued that wiretapped conversations, the main evidence in the case, had been incorrectly translated. It concerns conversations in Portuguese, while the case took place in Italy.

However, Robinho’s defense was brushed aside by the Italian court. The decision could no longer be appealed. However, the former dribbler of Real Madrid, Manchester City and Milan, among others, has not had to serve a minute of the sentence: it is enshrined in the Brazilian constitution that the country does not extradite citizens to other countries. Robinho has been living in Brazil since his last trick as a footballer with childhood sweetheart Santos.

Italy is still trying to put Robinho behind bars through a formal request. A spokeswoman for the Italian Ministry of Justice has since confirmed that the extradition request has been submitted to the Brazilian authorities. Robinho could already be arrested if he decides to travel to Europe. There is an international arrest warrant against the Brazilian.
