Hans Vonk is not yet fully convinced of the qualities of Diant Ramaj, the former goalkeeper said in front of the camera of ESPN. During the preview of the Eredivisie match between SC Heerenveen and Ajax, Vonk emphasizes that the current Ajax goalkeeper is 'doing reasonably well', but that he has not yet been able to show anything in top matches.

“So far he is doing reasonably well,” says Vonk, who played for both Heerenveen and Ajax during his active career. “I just don't think he is a full-fledged top goalkeeper for Ajax, which they have had in recent years.”

“Anyway, everyone had to get used to André Onana, because he didn't do well in the beginning,” continues the former goalkeeper, who now lives in South Africa.

“At Ajax it is important that communication is good. It must be clear in advance who the first, second and third goalkeeper is. Of course it is now difficult to judge Ajax.”

“Normally you base your judgment on the qualities of the Ajax goalkeeper on his performances in the Champions League and other international top matches.”

“He is doing reasonably well nationally and is also fine in the Conference League, but it is about the Champions League,” Vonk concludes. “So we actually have to wait another year and a half before we can really assess whether it is future-proof.”

Ramaj was taken over from Eintracht Frankfurt by former football director Sven Mislintat last transfer summer. The goalkeeper won the competition under Gerónimo Rulli's crossbar.
