Sergio Busquets leaves Barcelona on a free transfer after eighteen seasons. The 34-year-old veteran played his last game for the Catalans against RCD Mallorca (3-0 win) on Sunday. The sporting future of Busquets is not yet known. Opposite RAC1 the midfielder reveals that he has several offers in his pocket. Busquets also speaks out about who he would prefer to see as his successor at Barcelona.

“I have three or four options,” the midfielder tells Spanish radio station. “All outside Europe.” According to RAC1 it concerns Inter Miami and clubs from Saudi Arabia. Busquets does not consider it likely that he can still be admired in LaLiga next season. “I also don’t know if I could play a match against Barcelona.”

Busquets has been seriously considering a departure from Barça since January. “It wasn’t easy at all. There were days when I thought: Yes, but also days when I doubted. In the end, I think I made the best decision. I will not return to that. I want to live a new experience.” The lesser results in recent years ensured that the Spaniard did not opt for a departure from the Catalans earlier. “I didn’t want to leave with that feeling.”

Busquets made his debut for the Catalans in 2008 and has played 722 games for the club since then. The midfielder understandably leaves a big gap, although he knows who should succeed him at Barcelona. “My favorite option as the new controller of Barcelona is Rodri (from Manchester City, ed.), but I understand that his arrival will be a very difficult story.” Los Azulgrana have also been linked to Martín Zubimendi (Real Sociedad) and Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich) in recent weeks. “I think Zubi of the two best suits Barça’s style of play. If you look within the club, Nico González is a good option,” said Busquets.
