Feyenoord has broken open the contract with Tyrell Malacia and extended it by one year, the club announced on Monday afternoon via the official channels. As a result, Malacia will remain associated with Feyenoord until mid-2024. The 21-year-old Malacia played 26 league matches for Feyenoord last season; if he was not injured or suspended, he was invariably part of the basic team of trainer Dick Advocaat.

Malacia, who reached the semi-finals of the European Under-21 Championship as a basic player of the Dutch Juniors at the beginning of this month, thinks he can still grow at Feyenoord. “This is my club, since I came here in 2008. Since then I have grown every year as a footballer, so it makes sense to want to stay longer at Feyenoord. I am happy that I was able to show what I can do this season am, both at Feyenoord and at the Dutch Juniors. I am really looking forward to continuing that line in the new season, under a new trainer (Arne Slot, ed.).”

Technical director Frank Arnesen is happy with Malacia’s contract extension. “It is of course fantastic for the club to keep a football player who has worked his way up to the first team as a youth player for longer. Tyrell has certainly developed extremely well last season and has also played an excellent role at the Dutch Juniors after that. We want to continue so that Tyrell will represent an even more important value within the first team and for Feyenoord in general.”

Born and raised in South Rotterdam, Malacia has played through all youth teams since his arrival at Feyenoord Academy in 2008 and signed his first professional contract with the club in 2015. Three years later, a few months after his debut in Feyenoord 1, he signed a five-year contract. That agreement has now been extended by one year until mid-2024.
