Latest update:

If it were up to Naci Ünüvar himself, the attacking midfielder and winger would get a chance in Ajax 1 next season, he said in the YouTube program MatchdayThe Amsterdammers have a new head coach in Francesco Farioli and Ünüvar hopes to be able to make the definitive move to the first team of Ajax under the Italian.

The 21-year-old Zaandam resident is impressed by what he has learned from Farioli so far. “He's fanatical, man,” says Ünüvar. “He's on top of things, he really cares, he's really smart. In his review you really notice that he knows football.”

Last season, Ünüvar was loaned by Ajax to FC Twente, after having played for Trabzonspor on a temporary basis for a year. His adventure in Enschede was not quite what Ünüvar had hoped for.

In total, he made 32 appearances for the Tukkers, of which no less than 23 as a substitute. Ünüvar's production was stuck at four goals and three assists. Nevertheless, the Turkish youth international is aiming for a chance in the Amsterdam first team next season, he indicates.

“I hope so. The coach is of course also new, so I think everyone will get a chance, but in the end you just have to show it yourself. It is not given to you,” concludes Ünüvar, who has a contract with Ajax until the summer of 2026.

It is possible that Ünüvar will still opt for a transfer away from Amsterdam if it becomes clear later in the preparation for the coming season that he cannot count on many playing minutes under Farioli. Football International already reported that NEC has a latent interest in the youngster.
